This is what one of my New York college readings says. Easier put, we, as humans, often perceive both ourselves and others from a prejudiced point of view, not from a blank mental slate. As a consequence, we tend to confirm assumptions of ourselves and/ or others through self-fulfilling prophecy.
See it like Gossip Girl. I would argue that these dramalicious series showcase self-fulfilling prophecy through the infinite gossip, based on (false) assumptions. The consequences of these assumptions could have been easily avoided through honesty and proactive communication. Though, it might not have made the series that successful.
